Protecting Habitat

The Newfields-Exeter Community Forest will add 148 acres to create a 636-acre conserved block, which in turn is nearby thousands of acres of conserved land. Mature forests, wetlands, vernal pools, rare species habitat, and scenic open space will be protected from an otherwise sure path to development, all within an area prioritized for conservation by multiple conservation entities.

This project will also protect water quality within two impaired coastal watersheds as well as an area that supports two vital public drinking water wells. Overall, conserving this landscape will help ensure that wildlife are able to thrive and that residents and outdoor enthusiasts are able to explore and access nature close to home.
