Creating a New Community Forest
The Trust for Public Land is partnering with Southeast Land Trust, the Towns of Newfields and Exeter, trail user groups, and residents to protect a threatened, private landscape as a new Community Forest. With the purchase of 101 acres in Newfields and 47 acres in Exeter, the existing town forests will be expanded by 33%, and public access will be vastly improved by a new parking area and trailhead. We are requesting the towns of Newfields and Exeter to provide funding toward the land purchase through town bonds, while additional funding will be raised through state and federal grants and philanthropic donations. Town bonds must be voter approved with a 3/5 majority. Join us in petitioning the towns to put funding for this important project on the ballot in 2024, and vote to support it!
